Top 5 Best Neoclassical Composers that you need to check out in 2026

There are so many wonderful composers in the Contemporary Classical and Neoclassical world with the obvious ones being Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Michael Nyman and Nils Frahm.

These guys (and many others besides) have been writing beautiful and emotive music for years, decades in some cases but there are plenty of new and rising composers worth checking out. Here are five of my (slightly biased but no less unworthy) favourite composers to keep an eye on in 2026.

Vanbur

A Bristol-based duo of composers Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish who mix elements of dream pop with contemporary classical music. All of they’re output is worth a listen but their album ‘In The Absence’ is particularly worth having a listen to.

Jamie Duffy

Is an Irish piano composer who blends pop, Neo classicalism and Irish tradition released his debut single, ‘Solas,’ to great success, reaching No.1 position in the classical charts of several countries and became the most successful debut release from an Irish artist since Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church.’ Amongst other accolades, Duffy is one of the youngest people to headline the National Concert Hall in Dublin which he sold out!

Gabriela Ortiz

Ortiz is a mexican music educator and composer who was the composer in residence for Carnegie Hall’s 2024-2025 season. Her pieces are performed all over the world with her 2024 album ‘Revolución Diamantina’ being nominated for four awards at the 2025 Grammys, receiving three, including best contemporary classical composition.

Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres

Hamilton-Ayres is a composer and artist who reframes her own emotional processing as vivid storytelling experiences in music. She is a favourite of BBC Radio 3 for her merging of sound worlds and story-telling. Her takes on sound design and use of recording spaces is really cool too - heightening the emotional impact of her works in an original way!

Nick Pike

Pike is a London-based composer blending piano with strings, synthesisers and electronic elements, equally at home with writing intimate piano pieces (such as ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Phraxia’) as well as inspiring, hybrid-orchestral music (such as his new release ‘Cassian Rising’ from his upcoming album ‘Ayloradia’). His debut album ‘Norastoria’ was well-received and blends piano with intricate violin and cello with his upcoming album ‘Ayloradia’ being a spiritual successor to that release..
