Music

Nick Pike’s sound as a composer is primarily crafted from his grounding in Classical piano but heavily influenced by his love of Jazz, Funk and Soul.

As Nick’s original artist music has evolved, it has shifted from the bombastic, epic, grand piano, strings and electronic sound of ‘Norastoria’ to the slow-paced, synth-laden, soft piano sleep album ‘Evergreen.’ Nick’s solo piano EP ‘Day Dances’ allowed him to stretch his fingers out to perform four virtuosic solo piano pieces.

Due Nick’s preferred method of playing lush chords around the middle C area, his preferred orchestration for his solo material is to use cellos below and violins above. The lack of violas leaves space for the piano to sound out and replacing the double basses with a Moog sub-phatty to bring out all the big bottom end.

Elements from all four of those releases are evident in Nick Pike’s newest release ‘Phraxia’ where tracks such as ‘Whispertide’ and ‘Abaluna’ features shimmering soft piano and subtly swirling synth lines giving an otherworldly quality.

In contrast, ‘Für Beethoven’ is a technically challenging solo piano half arrangement/half homage to the iconic Beethoven Piece Für Elise. Drawing heavily on the opening melodic elements from the original but playing around with them in a Neo classical style. The piece features a blend of the original melody and an infusion of original ideas as well.
